Your Community League
Welcome to Riverdale !
Riverdale Community League is pleased to welcome you to Edmonton's best little community! The League was founded in 1920 and is a founding member of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues.

What does the Community League do?
We help community league members to build a strong, diverse and proactive community by acknowledging and responding to the needs of its members. Here is a partial list of current activities:
  • Maintain the outdoor skating rink. Riverdale has the best ice in town!
  • Community Services to provide summer and playground programs.
  • Organize, coach, and host children's soccer.
  • Organize Canada Day and New Year's celebrations.
  • Facilitate children's playgroups.
  • Own and maintain The Hall and The Rink Palace.
  • Work with the City Planning Department regarding permits, appeals and subdivision applications.
Where do we get our funding?
People who live in Riverdale are generous and community oriented. It is hard to meet a Riverdalian who has not supported this community with time, talent, or money. Many have contributed in very substantial ways.
  • We have been helped recently by generous donations from United Communities, The Challenge Group and the other good neighbours and builders from the Brickyard Development.
  • Our Fall Membership Drive is an important fundraiser. We aim for 100% membership. High membership helps us obtain greater amounts of external funding.
  • The City of Edmonton
  • We host a Casino every 18 months.
To contribute ideas on ways to further support the community through fundraising or if you would like to make a donation please contact the fundraising committee through Raquel Feroe at 421-0975.

How do I get community news, history and current events?
  • Gardening and walking in Riverdale provides the timeliest news but here are some other ways.
  • Read and contribute to the monthly community newspaper, The Riverdalian.
  • Read & contribute to the Riverdale Web Site
  • Visit the postings on the window of Tree Frog Press at 10144 - 89 Street.
  • Read Riverdale: From Fraser Flats to Edmonton Oasis, published by our own Tree Frog Press. To get a copy of this rare book you will have to go to the library or borrow a copy from a neighbour.
How can I become involved?
  • Come to a league meeting and volunteer.
  • Hit the website to post a question or to offer help.
  • Fill out your membership card with a list of your skills.
  • Inquire as to where your donation of time could most benefit our community.
What are our current big projects?
  • School ground naturescaping support for Riverdale School.
  • Needs assessment and completion of the Rink Palace.
  • Playground and community green space development in partnership with Riverdale School, Community Services and the Riverdale Garden Group.
Do you have an interest in some of the activities already mentioned or would you be interested in starting a new project to enhance Riverdale? Some dream of a skateboard park or a canoe launch. Together, we may be able to make your concept a reality.

Please do not hesitate to contact any league volunteers. We want you to feel welcome and the community will really appreciate your contribution.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. To add an agenda item or to make inquires, please contact the chair, Bill Moore-Kilgannon.
